When and where

We run Little Athletics at the University of the Sunshine Coast every Friday night during the season. It’s about fun, trying your best, and being part of something active.

Your child doesn’t need to be fast. They don’t need experience. They just need to show up and give it a go. We’ve got a professional track, qualified coaches, and a community that makes every kid feel welcome.

What happens at a session

Each Friday night, your child rotates through different athletics events. We run a six-week program, so over the course of the season they’ll compete in all available events for their age group multiple times.

Events include:

  • Track: Sprints, distance running, hurdles, relays
  • Field: Long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, javelin

Each age group competes in several events per night. The rotation means no one is standing around bored, and everyone gets a chance to discover what they’re good at.

For Tiny Tots (our youngest group): We run a special program designed just for them. Think mini hurdles, simplified jumps, and fun versions of throwing events. It’s about getting a taste of Little Athletics without overwhelming them.

What to expect for your first time

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early so you’re not rushed
  • Check in at the registration desk (we’ll point you in the right direction)
  • We’ll get your child sorted with their age group
  • Officials and volunteers will explain what’s happening
  • Your child will rotate through a few events with their group

What your child needs

Your child doesn’t need a huge amount of gear to get started. Here’s a quick list of the basics your child needs to have.

  • Uniform Tops (polo, singlet or crop top) with plain black bike pants, shorts or other approved bottoms
  • Supportive running shoes
  • Water bottle

Costs and signup process

We use a family-based registration fee system to help make Little Athletics more affordable.

Family cap: If you’ve got multiple children, the maximum you’ll pay is $465 per family for the entire season. That includes all registration fees and levies, regardless of how many kids you register. Note: The registration system may charge more for a family of 3 or more athletes. We will contact you to refund the difference and bring your payment back to the Family Cap.

Financial assistance: You may be eligible for support through the Queensland Government’s FairPlay funding program. Details here.

Uniforms: Not included in registration cost.
